UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES:
Helping An Afghan Family
Last summer, Rabbi Joshua Caruso shared a message about Mishhan Or’s support of an Afghan family – here is an update:
On May 22, two young Afghan parents and their two children arrived in Cleveland from the other side of the world. Only the father spoke any English at all. In these six months, they have found their way to parks and libraries, to block parties and birthday parties, to doctors and dentists and stores. Their three-year- old is attending preschool and already becoming an American kid who adores scooters and sparklers.
They are determined to thrive here, and Congregation Mishkan Or can help with the next phase. The dad needs a better-paying, full-time job – and that requires a car, especially with winter coming. He has already passed the test for his permit, and should have his driver’s license soon. If you have a reliable old car that he could have, or know someone who does, it would change their lives. Or, your financial help can make it possible for them to buy a used car that the Tikkun Olam Committee will have professionally evaluated.
If you can offer a car or a lead for one, please contact Rita Goodman at reetgoodman@sbcglobal.net.
To contribute toward a car and insurance, CLICK HERE for our Giving page and choose “HIAS Donation” as the fund. Thank You!
